Gentle Chiropractic Treatment in West Seattle
In my West Seattle Chiropractic Clinic some patients are anxious about getting a treatment. They ask me if it will hurt, and if it will help. Most people who come in are in pain and may not have much tolerance to touch and movement. In my clinic even the kids like getting adjusted.
After an evaluation to determine if Chiropractic care is appropriate for the patient’s condition, the treatment tailored to the patient’s tolerance and preferences. My approach is based on SOT or Sacro Occipital technique, starting with balancing the pelvis which is the foundational support for the spine. The patient is placed on wedges and the weight of their body on these wedges helps re-align the pelvis, giving immediate relief and also helps the rest of the spine and body to start relaxing. Then very specific adjustments are done on the other problem areas, both spine and extremities.
Light force manual adjustments, meaning hands on, can be performed on spinal segments if the patient can tolerate it. If the patient has osteoporosis or any boney fragility, hypermobility, or just doesn’t like manual adjusting, I use an adjusting instrument which safely and gently decreases the muscle and joint tension in the neck, back, and extremities reduces, muscle spasm, increases joint movement, and eliminates nerve pressure or irritation. It delivers a gentle rapid series of controlled thrusts and changes the nerve input to the brain which can help correct dysfunction in the body.
Hot packs are often used to help increase blood flow to the area (unless contraindicated) and relax the soft tissues.
Trigger point therapy is often included in the treatment in my West Seattle Clinic. Trigger points are areas of spasm in muscles due to irritated nerves and abnormal joint movement. Softening these painful areas of spasm not only feels better but helps break the disruptive neural patterns.
Stretching and/or strengthening exercises are prescribed as soon as the patient is able to do them, which can greatly improve the healing process.
